Last i year, during a motorbike convoy to Indonesia, i went to Surabaya to visit the Monumen Kapalselam (Submarine Monument). The monument actually is a real submarine known as KRI Pasopati 410. The Indonesia already got their own submarine in 1960.
KRI Pasopati is Whiskey Class Submarine made in Russia and saw active duty in 1962 but never saw any battle action during her duty including the time of Confrontation with Malaysia.
The ship can carry about 64 crew members.
My first experience with submarine was in 1998 in Langkawi, French Agosta. The living quater is small and crew sleep in the torpedo room.

Tak sangka pula yang Indonesia dah ada kapal selam lebih awal daripada Malaysia. Mungkin juga pada waktu itu dasar negara kita lebih kepada pengukuhan ekonomi.

There are rumors that TNI AL already on midget submarine projects. It is cheap, silent and can be as deadly as any submarine out there. Midget sub can filled the gap in quantity to cover our vast territory.
While an ocean class submarine are still irreplaceable for certain needs, midget sub are arguably best choice for territorial defence in nusantara since most of Indonesian water are shallow except in some east area.
And now there there’s been a fuss that 10-13 Russian Kilo class subs are just around the corner for Indonesian Navy. Well, its about time anyway with our two ageing sub will be dismissed sooner or later.
Its been a good years for TNI
